Stephen Kigotho yesterday conducted a site visit to Gakawa Ward in order to ascertain the status of Guara, Njaga, Karicho, Acacia dams among others. During the visit, the Committee confirmed the accuracy of a request for statement tabled before the House by Gakawa Ward MCA Hon. Charity Wangui, highlighting the numerous challenges facing the Gakawa residents as a result of dam leakages and overflows. The Committee Members challenged the Department of Water to act with urgency in order to reduce the adverse impacts of such situations. Addressing the Committee, the CECM in charge of Water, Irrigation, Environment and Climate Change Mr. Fredrick Kinyua, committed that the Department will adequately address the challenges and devise the necessary measures in order to ensure the community is safe.     COMMITTEE ON WATER AND SANITATION HOLDS DISCUSSIONS WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF WATER The County Assembly of Nyeri Committee on Water and Sanitation chaired by Gikondi Ward MCA Hon. Stephen Kigotho yesterday engaged the Officers from the Department of Water, Irrigation, Environment and Climate Change led by the CEC Mr. Fredrick Kinyua regarding the status of Guara, Njaga, Karicho and Acacia Dams located in Gakawa Ward.Under discussion were the steps to be taken in order to prevent the dams from leaking and overflowing. The meeting was occasioned by questions raised before the Water Committee by Hon. Charity Wangui (Gakawa Ward) on the measures that will be put in place in order to safeguard the neighbouring communities from the aforementioned dams' leakages and overflows.In her request for statement, Hon. Charity noted that these dams have been leaking, with the overflow getting into people’s homesteads, thereby exposing the Community to risks.     ASSEMBLY CALLS FOR COMPLIANCE TO PUBLIC ROAD TRANSPORT REGULATIONS The County Assembly yesterday approved a motion seeking for enforcement of National and County Legislations governing the Public Road Transport Sector and other road use Regulations to maintain law and order by regulating and controlling traffic and preventing obstruction in public places and public roads among other areas respectively. In a motion moved by Hon. Agnes Wachira (Gender representative), the Member urged the County Executive Committee Member in charge of Transport to submit to the County Assembly for approval, Regulations on Matatu Termini for subsequent enforcement.Hon. Agnes also urged the Executive to facilitate a sensitization Programme with Public Transport stakeholders on the importance of adhering to the Public Road Transport and Road use regulations and on the impact of non-compliance.In a sitting chaired by the Speaker Hon.     COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE ENGAGES THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND LIVESTOCKThe Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries chaired by Kirimukuyu Ward MCA Hon. Anthony Ndagita yesterday held a consultative meeting with Officers from the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Aquaculture Development led by the CEC Mr. James Wachihi and the Chief Officer Mr. Wilson Maringa.During the session, the Committee sought to understand the following:What is the Department doing to sensitize and encourage the farmers in Nyeri County not to engage in the trade of female calves since the main purpose of its retention is to increase productivity? This follows a request for statement by Wamagana Ward MCA Hon. Sabastian Mugo highlighting that there are concerns from members of the community that neighbouring counties are targeting livestock bred from Nyeri County’s Artificial Insemination services.The Officers were also put to task to explain whether the Department is aware of the manner in which macadamia and Avocado farmers are being exploited and the measures put in place to safeguard them against exploitation by local processors and brokers.     A SUMMARY OF STATEMENTS REQUESTED BY HON. MEMBERSRequest for statement by Hon. Janet Kamiru concerning the influx of animals wandering around in towns. Hon. Janet informed the House that Dogs, sheep, pigs, donkeys and other domestic animals have been roaming about the Central Business District, along the streets and other areas within the County. She has raised questions on the measures the Department will put in place to ensure there are no animals roaming about in towns. Hon. Lucy Wanyitu sought a statement from the Chairperson Committee on Legal Affairs, County Public Service and Administration Committee on why it has taken so long to install an elevator within the Town Hall Building. Hon. Wanyitu noted that the Governor’s Office is located on the second floor of the building adding that it is inaccessible to the Persons with Disabilities which is in contravention with Article 54(1) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 which provides that a Person with Disability (PWD) is entitled to reasonable access to all places. The response should elaborate whether the procurement process for installation of the elevator has already commenced.Hon. Wanyitu is also seeking a report outlining the progress made in the implementation of the Assembly resolution following approval of the motion urging the County Executive Committee Member in charge of Gender to establish Persons with Cerebral Palsy Support Programme among other initiatives aimed at supporting the persons.In a different statement, Hon.
