FINANCE AND ECONOMIC PLANNING COMMITTEE HOLDS DISCUSSIONS WITH OFFICERS FROM THE FINANCE AND HEALTH SERVICES DEPARTMENTS

The Committee on Finance and Economic Planning Chaired by Mukurwe-ini West Ward MCA Hon. Atanasio Kabaire held consultative meetings with officers from the County Executive. The first officers to meet the Committee were from the Finance Department led by the Chief Officer in charge of Finance and Accounting Mr. John Ngugi to shed light on the Financial Statements for the financial year 2021/2022.

The Committee is in the process of examining the First, Second and Third Quarter Financial Statements and will compile a report and table its recommendations before the House.

The Committee on Finance also held discussions with officers from the Department of Health led by the Chief Officer Mr. Ibrahim Adan together with Nyeri Revenue Director Ms. Rehema Salim to deliberate on the waiver reports for the Financial Year 2021/2022 which were tabled in the Assembly and consequently committed to the Committee.

HOUSE APPROVES THE APPOINTMENT OF THREE MEMBERS TO THE NYERI COUNTY HOSPITAL BOARDSThe County Assembly of Nyeri has this evening approved the appointment of three Members to the Nyeri County Hospital Boards of County Level IV and V Hospitals namely; Mr. Martin Githinji, the Nominee for Nyeri County Referral Hospital, Ms. Wanjira Kaburi(Othaya Level IV Hospital) and Mr. Paul Mathu (Mt. Kenya Level IV Hospital).While moving the motion for adoption of the Vetting report on behalf of the Chairperson Committee on Health Services, the Vice Chairperson and Mwiyogo / EndarashaWard MCA Hon. Christopher Mbichi informed the House that the Nominees appeared before the Committee and were vetted in accordance with the Public Appointments (County Assemblies Approval) Act, 2017. He further explained that the Committee examined the overall suitability of the Nominees based on academic qualifications, Professional experience, knowledge of the relevant subject, integrity, vision and leadership among others. Hon. Mbichi also noted that the Nominees have vast experience in the relevant fields adding that they are well suited for the job. In a sitting Chaired by the Deputy Speaker and Ruring’u Ward MCA Hon. Samuel Kariuki, the Hon. Members approved the appointment of the Board Members noting that they possess the requisite qualifications and professional experience required to serve in the Hospital Boards. The Hon. Members urged the Nominees to fully utilize their skills to enhance service delivery in the hospitals.The functions of the Hospital Boards are to :-(a) Provide oversight over the administration of the hospital;(b) Promote the development of the hospital;(c) Approve plans and programs for implementing county health strategies in the hospital;(d) Approve estimates before submission to the Chief Officer; and carry out any other function assigned by the Executive Secretary ... REQUEST FOR STATEMENTS BY HON. MEMBERS Chinga Ward MCA Hon. Kiruga Thuku has this evening requested for a statement through the Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries on the earning of Nyeri tea farmers per kilogram of tea.In his request for statement, Hon. Thuku noted that farming is the sole economic activity for most of the farmers emphasizing the need to ensure they realize optimal gains from tea farming. The response to this statement should provide details on the earnings for the year 2022, current earning per kilogram of tea and the projected price of kilogramme of tea by the year 2027.In a different statement Karima Ward MCA Hon. Eunice Wagaki requested for a statement from the Committee on Education , Science and Technology on when Unjiru Vocational Training Centre in Karima Ward , Othaya will be operationalized noting that she has set aside Kshs.500,000 within the Ward Specific Budget for FY 2023/2024 for the purpose of renovating the facility. ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE VISITS CHINGA DAM The Committee on Environment and Natural Resources Chaired by Magutu Ward MCA Hon. Jackson Kabingu has this afternoon conducted a site visit to Chinga with the aim to ascertain the status of Chinga Dam in Chinga Ward. Accompanied by the area MCA Hon. Kiruga Thuku, the Hon. Members noted that tragic cases have been recorded from the said dam emphasizing the need for the Department of Water, Irrigation, Environment and Natural Resources to ensure dam safety in order to curb accidents and safety hazards.
